Origin of the Name
This is the record of a great family. Scropes were in England before William the Conqueror arrived and they contributed a great deal to the growth and history of the country. This is a fairly old surname and was already established in Britain before 1066.
I have not included the Throop family in The United States on this site as I have not seen conclusive proof or a DNA study that shows they are connected. I've only seen various claims that have not had good substantiation. Males Scroops and Throops do exist at present.
Perhaps the next person that takes over this study can find uncontroversial proof
One origin of the name suggests that Richard may have had a disability and Scrop comes from crab
A second suggestion is that the name has a viking origin
